The first Game Boy was released back in 1989 as a sequel to the well-known Nintendo Game & Watch pocket games (known in the USSR and Russia by clones called “Well, you wait!”, “Secrets of the Ocean”, etc.) It was the first popular portable game system, and many companies tried to replicate the success of the Game Boy, but no one ever succeeded.

The secret of success was simple on one side only: black and white miniature screen 160x144 pixels, stereo sound on four channels and GameLink function.

Whenever, for whatever reason, Game Boy sales dwindled, Nintendo released new Game Boy variants to boost sales again. Thus, in November 1996, the Game Boy Pocket appeared, which was 30% smaller than its predecessor, but with a larger screen and only two AAA batteries. Later, the Game Boy Color was released with a color screen, then the Game Boy Advance.
