Nadia is a black teenager. She is an orphan and works with her hand left in a traveling circus sometime in the 1880s. Jean is a young inventor who dreams of building his own flying machine. Their paths cross one day when Nadia becomes the target of a kidnapping by a Crime Syndicate who hope she is the key to finding the sunken continent of Atlantis.
Seeking to escape their pursuers, Nadia and Jean take refuge in the ocean, where they encounter the legendary Captain Nemo, a man who holds the key to Nadia's mysterious past.
