Tales of Phantasia is the first JRPG in the Tales series developed by Wolf Team for the SNES and released on December 15, 1995 in Japan. Remakes or ports of the game were later released for the PlayStation, Game Boy Advance, and PlayStation Portable. The protagonist of the game, Kress, and his friend Chester are residents of the small village of Toltus. Returning from the hunt, they find their village destroyed by the black knight Mars and his soldiers. All residents are killed, including Kress's parents and Chester's sister. To find out what his mother tried to tell before her death, Kress goes to the city of Euclid to his uncle. However, he betrays him and the minions of Mars grab Kress and throw him in prison, taking away his family medallion. It turns out that Kress's father was one of the four warriors who defeated the evil sorcerer Taoist and cast a spell on him with a medallion.
