Gameplay takes place in a standard top view, with one of nine different characters at the bottom of the screen. In two-player link-cable mode, each player sees their player on the bottom half of the screen, so as not to harm each other. Control couldn't be easier ¿ move your character with the joystick, and swing on the ball C (for strong volleys) or B (for weak button volleys). When you push the joystick in a direction, you will send the ball in that direction. And you can dive or spike the ball automatically if your character is in the right position. The game is quick and dirty, very fast and easy to pick up and play.
The graphic style is very Japanese (you know...big head, small body) but it adds to the overall atmosphere of the game. Pocket Tennis Color also has five different tennis courts. Most not only in looks, but no one Canyon actually plays differently. The course is pinched in a gorge and there are no borders on the left or right you can bounce shots off the walls for a stealth result. It's certainly a neat, racquetball-style addition.

The game still saves its rewards in memory for later review (through the trophy shelf...how cute).
