Rockaroids Remix - 3rd Rock by John Dondzila

Asteroids have been a giant hit in the arcades. Being one of the earlier vector games, it made sense to have clones of it appear on Vectrex, which happened with Mine Storm, and years later with Rockaroids as one of the earliest homebrew games, as well as this remix.

Players control a ship that must destroy rockaroids. Shooting at a large rockeroid turns into two medium ones; after the shot, the middle rokaroid will turn into two small ones, which, by shooting at the small rokaroid, will destroy it. Flying Saucers will also spawn from time to time and fire multiple times as they cross the screen.

Players can rotate their ship, strike, and use hyperspace to place them in a random position on the screen in case of an emergency. However, the player's ship can be destroyed when exiting hyperspace. Colliding with any rock, saucer, or saucer fire will also destroy the player's ship. The player's ship is invulnerable for a few seconds with each new ship and new screen of rockaroids.

The game will end as soon as the player exits the reserve ships.

  • Rockaroids was originally a limited edition and later appeared on All Good Things. Rockaroids in this version, for the most part, move much faster than in the original.
  • Rockaroids Remix was originally sold on the Vectrex cart site rather than Classic Game Creations. However, once John Dondzila purchased the Vectrex carts from Mark Shaker, it became available on his website until the end of 2013, when Dondzila could no longer spend time making games and doing his daily work. However, Packrat Video Games, LLC re-released the game in April 2015.
  • The design of the ship from this game is repeated on Rockaroids Remix: Third Rock on Vecmania.
