This game is rendered in full 3D, thus aiming for change management. Bomberman can walk in eight directions with the camera facing eight directions and with three different zoom levels. His bombs have a different effect than other games in the series; bomb explosion waves have a spherical pattern than traditional cross-shaped ones. In both single player and multi-player modes, Bomberman always has the ability to hit, pick up and throw bombs, with no power-ups like in previous games. A unique feature of this game is that Bomberman can "Pump" the bomb by holding it, which will make the bomb explode more powerfully.

Released in Japan as Baku Bomberman 2, this game is part of a large collection of Japanese Nintendo 64 games from the Strong Collection, which account for almost 100% of all games released for this system.
