Baseball Stars was the first baseball game to have a backup battery on any console, and the first non-sports game to have a backup battery. it allowed players to create a team, set up a baseball league and play in a season, and the game's memory chip stored accumulated statistics. Baseball Stars was also the first sports game for the NES to create a player-based feature; giving players the right to name their players as well as their teams. Also in the game introduced role-playing element; since each game receives the winning team money, and the amount of winnings directly depends on the amount of prestige ratings of players from both teams (as prestige determines how much to pay fans to attend this game). The money can be used to purchase upgrades for various player abilities currently in the roster, or it can be purchased pre-designed by players (available in the Rookie, Veteran, and All-Star categories).
