NAM-1975 is a military-themed game released by SNK in 1990. It is the first game released for Neo-Geo arcades and home consoles.
The main feature of this game is the original gameplay. The main character is a soldier who went on an important mission. You control the target and move your character at the same time. It's pretty hard to put together. Numerous enemies are trying to destroy you, but this is not so easy to do. The game describes the fictional events of the last months of the Vietnam War. The story begins with two soldiers going to war to free Dr. R. Muckly, a former US Army scientist who was kidnapped by terrorists. Nancy Muckly, daughter of Dr. Muckly has also been kidnapped.
However, as the game progresses, the soldiers learn that Dr. R. Muckly is crazy trying to create a giant laser that has no analogues in the world.
The game has many references to famous Vietnam War movies such as Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket.
The joystick is used to move the soldier and the sight right and left. The A button is used to shoot in the direction the scope is pointing. If the shoot button is pressed, the player can move the crosshair while their player character is in place. The B button is used to throw a grenade in the direction the scope is pointing. Simultaneously pressing the C button and moving the joystick to the right or left allows the character to run in the specified direction. Moving the joystick diagonally left or diagonally right while running allows the player to dodge bullets.
The player starts the game with a regular machine gun with infinite ammo and 10 regular grenades. When some of the enemies die they drop pistols or grenades. Weapons in the game consist of the Balcan machine gun (the most powerful machine gun), the flamethrower (capable of destroying ground enemies only) and the rocket launcher. Grenades consist of regular grenades, bombs, and napalm bombs.
Also, when a hostage is released, the hostage will start helping the player kill enemies until the player is killed.
