Game Spinball (Vectrex - vect)
Spinball
Спинболл

Spinball (Flipper Pinball in Europe) is a pinball device and includes one fixed table. The player starts the game with five balls and the main goal is to score as many points as possible by sending the ball to hit the various targets available without losing the ball to the bottom of the table.

The player controls two sets of fins on the table, which are activated by buttons 2 and 3 on the standard Vectrex controller. The table can also be "nudged" with the joystick, which will slightly change the direction of the ball. Too many pushes in a short amount of time will result in a "tilt" penalty and loss of the current ball.

As with most pinball games in general, it is best for the player to keep the balls in play for as long as possible in order to score as many points as possible. Each individual grade achieved can also be increased with a "multiplier" shown as a number (1-6) followed by an "x" displayed above the current overall grade. The multiplier can be increased either by hitting the Splitter Ball (a star-shaped object just below the middle of the table) or by lighting up all four bumper targets at the same time.

Other bonuses include the central chute diamond lighting at the top of the playing field (above the four bumpers), as the ball passes through it when lit up and is worth 500 points. If the diamond does not burn, 1500 points are scored. If the player activates the lights in all four bumpers without hitting any of them, it will increase their score multiplier (as stated earlier, plus if the ball goes through the diamond when it's on fire, it will also light up the bumper). When all Diamonds are turned off, one of the Ball Saver arrows will be turned on for a short time, which are located at the bottom of the game board (one on each side of the player's fins). If the ball overturns one of them when it is lit, the ball is caught, returned to the playing field and a bonus of 1000 points is scored.

Bumpers also have power-ups that have a base score of 15 points per hit, although a lighted bumper hit adds 500 points. Drop targets also have several bonuses, as a bonus of 100 points is awarded for each set of drop targets that are hit when turned on; if they are hit in order (right to left or left to right), then an additional 200 points are added to each target, which also activates the Spinner Bonus and Ball Splitter for a short time.

Bonus fairing arrows are activated by knocking out any set of drop targets, rewarding the player with a 2000 point bonus (rather than 300 when the arrow is not activated), and briefly activating a Splitter Ball that appears in the center bottom of the table (above the player's flippers). If the ball comes into contact with the Splitter during activation, it will split into two balls, which will also cause a triangular bumper to appear between the player's lower fins, which can help keep the ball from falling down the drain.

If the ball lands on the Splitter while it has been activated for an unlimited time, the player's score multiplier increases.

  • In Europe, the game was called Flipper Pinball. The name of the original prototype was Dr. Flip.
  • The game was designed by Jeff Corsiglia and programmed by Mark Indicator in 1983.
  • The spinball is rarely seen in the original Vectrex games as it has a pause mode (activated and deactivated by pressing button 1). The only other game in the original line that had a pause feature was Star Ship.
  • Score not displayed during live playback, probably a performance/flicker optimization. Also, unlike most of the original game line, where if the player does not immediately select an option for players or a game on the options screen, the game will launch after a few seconds (Mine Storm, Scramble, Berzerk, Bedlam, etc.). ); here, however, the game is displayed over the screen instead.
