Musashi Ganryuki, known outside of Japan as Ganryu, is a hack and slash platform video game developed by Visco Corporation and published by SNK in 1999 for Neo Geo MVS. It is loosely based on Miyamoto Musashi's fight with Sasaki Kojiro. Sasaki was given the battle name Ganryu, hence the name of the game "Ganryu Musashi". The game's selectable characters are the samurai swordsman Miyamoto Musashi and his colleague Kunoichi Suzume. The mission of the game is to save the love of Osa Musashi from a clan of evil ninjas led by Kojiro Sasaki. Players are armed with a sword (katana for Musashi / kaiken for Suzume) and a claw. The claw serves as a long-range weapon and can act as a grapple in certain conditions to reach higher positions or cross chasms. A powerful projectile attack can also be achieved by holding the attack button, although it takes time to charge. Additional temporary weapons can be found over the course of the game, such as Musashi's Shuriken, Suzume's Kunai, and the "Energy Ball" weapon. After releasing the hostages, the player receives rewards in the form of food (onigiri, takoyaki), which can restore health, or rio coins for extra points.
