Contra is the first game in a fairly long series to be found across multiple platforms, a product by Konami that is considered one of the best games on the NES, along with Super Mario Bros., Metroid and others. Contra - the name of the game comes from the name of the Nicaraguan rebel units - Contras.
Coming out in 1988, Contra couldn't help but win over action gamers. The graphics in Contra are some of the best on the NES, but back in 1988 they were simply amazing. It wasn't so much about the quality of the drawing, but about how she performed, how she influenced the atmosphere of the Contra game. The player could feel it to the fullest already at the beginning. Getting to the island, he found himself on a rocky cliff overgrown with green grass, water splashed below, mountains with white caps could be seen in the distance, the night sky sparkled with stars overhead. Such graphic performance did its job - the player got used to the game. Music helped to create the atmosphere - tracks from a number of the best on the console, perfectly emphasizing the tone of one or another level. The levels themselves, in the amount of eight, are very diverse in appearance and vary quite a bit in terms of the way they pass. The first level is run from left to right. The second is the sequential passage of the corridors of the base with a rear view of the hero. The third is jumping up to the top of a high rock, located next to the waterfall. The fourth as the second, and then - as the first. But all levels are very different.
The gameplay in the Contra game is intense - many different opponents moving from different directions, stationary guns, turrets, tanks, falling grenades, to cope with this, considerable skill and dexterity are required. Management is light and responsive, does not cause significant discomfort. Hero and enemy sprites are large and have good animations. At the end of each level is its original "boss".
The biggest downside to Contra was the difficulty. After the advent of the NES emulation era, hacked versions of the game began to appear that allowed you to carry an unlimited number of lives and shields.
Contra can be played alone or with two players using five types of weapons. Weapons and upgrades are found in containers, sometimes flying across the screen or placed in place. In order for the contents of the container to fall out, it must be shot.
